What I would love to say to ROCKWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICTS BOE recent decision on free full day KDG:
As a loyal member of the Rockwood community, I am excited that Rockwood is now offering full day kindergarten to members of the District. It?s nice to see Rockwood accommodate those who wish to send their kids full day. I realize we are in the minority, however in a society where minority views are respected and accommodated, it is sad to see those of us who still believe day kindergarten is a valuable transition time for 5 year old's not be offered the necessary accommodations for day. No transportation, and/or going to a different school, these are not things that meet the needs of "all" your students. The whole picture is not being addressed with this decision. Kids who are not ready for a full day are being left behind. How do you plan to address this situation? The second concerning point here is that this decision was made 3 months prior to the start of the school year. There was not an ?easing in? or long term planning process made open to parents. Had we have known full day was coming and the district would have had communicated this to families, we would have made other decisions, like to enroll in a preschool program several days per week to get them ready. Or made other daycare arrangements. It is now too late to do those necessary things. Since there was no long term planning, families were left unprepared. This is not a move that signals a positive feeling on decision making within the district and we feel families and kids were hurt by this lack of planning. How will you address this situation? Again we are happy Rockwood is offering Full day to families who need or want it, but we are saddened by the lack of accommodation, communication and planning towards the minority group of parents who this is adversely affecting.
Anyone else in or around the district that has been affected feeling similar ???! I feel like something stinks and am saddened by being forced into something!
